Pumpkins preschool is registered with the Office for Standards Education (Ofsted). We abide by the regulations set out by Ofsted and are duty bound to inform them of any changes in the operation of the preschool.

We are open five days a week and offer both morning and afternoon sessions and now operate a lunch club.

It is very important to everyone, including parents that time and thought is given when a new child is settling into the preschool. Hopefully, we will have built up some relationship during the child’s introductory visits but the child will still miss their parents/carers and will feel strange to begin with. We try to overcome each child’s fears by:

  • Giving him/her lots of love and attention
  • Asking the parent/carer to bring a favourite toy as a comforter
  • Reinforcing constantly throughout the session that the child will be going home
  • Give him/her time to get used to us and the other children

Learning Through Play

Children have the same basic need to learn through play regardless of their environment. It is a means of discovering and exploring the word around them. Children combine elements of imagination such as adventure, creation, co-ordination and manipulation in their play activities. Toys and materials stimulate their curiosity and their emotional, intellectual and physical development. Growing mastery over materials with which they play also provides them with reassurance and satisfaction.

In a good group environment, children learn to share and co-operate with their peers, learn to trust new adults and learn development of speech by communicating with each other and adults. They can enjoy play opportunities not provided at home, learn to experiment with many things, listen to stories in a group and learn to work things out for themselves.
Pumpkins Preschool aims to provide a wide range of activities suitable for children at different stages of development. These activities cover:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding of the world
  • Expressive arts and design
  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Communication and language
  • Physical development
